Andrew Martel is a graduate from UNB in Computer Science and has been working in Management Consulting since 2015. While originally from the Maritimes, Andrew moved to Toronto after school for work (and adventure), only to return to Fredericton in 2018 – primarily cause of the housing market, but the true reason is donair sauce & proper garlic fingers. When it comes to film, Andrew is all about being in front of the camera – but realizes that there is an opportunity to use his organizational and business-like synergistic knowledge to one day be a top-notch producer.

Allowable stock footage includes bullets, fires, explosions, chromakeyed backgrounds, etc., but stock footage of people or other performers is not allowed.

Proof of rights may be asked for if the New Brunswick 48 Hour committee deems it necessary.

KICKOFF

One representative from each team must be present at the official Kickoff Event to receive their inspiration packages, although we would love for the entire team to be there so that we can get an official team photo. As soon as your team has been given their package, your 48 hours begin.

REQUIRED ELEMENTS

Each participating team will be given an inspiration package at the kickoff event. Inspiration packages vary from year to year. Team captains will receive detailed information about what is required upon registration. All required elements must be clearly seen or heard during your film in order to qualify your team for prizes.

VOLUNTEERS

All cast and crew members must be volunteers. The exchange of money for services provided during the competition is not allowed.

ANIMALS

Animal safety is important to the New Brunswick 48 Hour Film Competition. For this reason, films that result in the death or harm of any animal will be disqualified.

MUSIC RIGHTS

Teams are encouraged to work with a composer and/or musicians to write and record music for the films. Pre-recorded music is allowed, however the team must obtain the rights to any music used in its film and may be asked for proof of rights acquired if asked. Note: Song parodies (i.e., use of identifiable pre-existing compositions with new or altered lyrics or music) may not be included in the film without a signed release from the composition's rights holder. This rule applies without regard to whether the song parody arguably constitutes "fair use" under Canadian or international copyright law.

RUNNING TIME

The finished film, INCLUDING end credits, must not exceed the time limit indicated in the team captains informational e-mail. The New Brunswick 48 Hour Film Competition reserves the right to refuse to screen any film that exceeds the run time given.

CAST AND CREW RELEASES

Each team must secure releases for cast, crew, and music before the official screening of the New Brunswick 48 Hour Film Competition. Location releases are not required for our official screening but may be required when submitting to festivals after the competition.

ELIGIBILITY

Any film deemed inappropriate by the official New Brunswick 48 Hour Film Competition judges will not be shown at the official screening. Judges reserve the right to ask teams for edits before the official screening but the film will not be eligible for awards.

Racism, sexism, and hate speech will not be tolerated. Judges hold final decision making power when it comes to whether or not your film will be screened.
